Probability Experiments -- Concluding Data

I am absent from school today.  However, all plans were left with Dren and the substitute and below are the planned activities:

Now that the class results are tabulated, in partner groups compare the whole class experimental probabilities to our pre-determined predictions. Answer all reflection questions. After you have completed both sides of the yellow sheet. Turn in your paper.

You will then be given five sheets to test, adjust variables, and record results to the spinner that I showed you last week. You will be given directions and will need to complete your tasks on an iPad.

Your mission: Get the experimental percents to match the theoretical percents. You have the knowledge and the technology. How close can you get?

ADJUSTABLE SPINNER

Before leaving class, turn in ALL papers!

Probability Experiments

Today, students worked on their probability experiments in class. Below are copies of the sheets that students used to collect data. After individual data collection was complete, students entered information on a class spread sheet in order to increase trial size. Questions and discussions will continue to take place.

Probability and Robot Movie

A few weeks ago, the students constructed a robot on the math room floor using the math skills of coordinate points and transformations. Upon seeing the final product, Mrs. Bureau recommended three of her students: Kelly Holland, Kristy Verrill, and Haley White from another team, create a stopmotion movie while removing the tape and then reversing the sequence. Click on the link to view the short movie of the the student's work.

Proportional Reasoning -- Penny
We have a few more penny squares that need to be finished before I share the final product. Stay tuned to future blog posts.

Notes for Probability:

Go to the "Spinner" and play around with change the chances for probability. Investigate "fair" spinners and "unfair" spinners. Can you name situations that are fair or unfair? How many trials must you need to run in order to get reliable event results? Did your experimental results reach the target theoretical results? Any possible explanation as to why it did or did not match?

Doin' Dots - Day 2

Students working on their individual portions for the class project:

HOMEWORK: Complete ALL Doin' Dots reflection questions which are located in your MTN before class tomorrow for a discussion.
