This Blog represents our work in "Math on Team Vista." A daily class summary or lesson will be posted with updated information. A separate page outlines George Polya's Problem Solving Strategies. A last section, "Blizzard Bag," is open only during the winter months. Stayed Tuned!

Immersion Day #2
Due to our Immersion Day schedule, we did not have math class today.
However, here is an interesting article about Leap Year -- since it's
today.

Continuation of 2-step Equations
Students did a really nice job in class with Solving 2-Step Equations. Unfortunately, only 53.5% of the students completed their work last night. We had a huge "responsibility" discussion. Here are the answers from last night's homework:
Then we began solving problems that required writing a 2-step equation and finding the solution. We will continue after vacation.
HOMEWORK: None for tonight.

NELMS Contest & More 2-Step
The NELMS Math Contest was given to each student today. All students in the building take part and have only 30 minutes to complete as many items as possible. Results will be shared in June.
For the remainder of the class period, students worked on more 2-step equations and completed the pink sheets in MTN. Students were given a gray sheet (see below) to practice independently at home.
HOMEWORK: Complete the gray colored paper in your MTN.

Solving Inequality Answers
First, we went over the answers from students' Thursday group work. (See answers below.) If you are still having trouble with the concept, make sure to see me tomorrow morning.
Second, we began 2-step equations:

More Solving Inequalities
Students solving and graphing Inequalities with multiplication and division in partner groups. We will go over the answers on Monday.
Students were also asked to think about the following concept:

Students were also asked to think about the following concept:
- You know the rule is to switch the inequality sign when multiplying with or dividing by a negative integer. Why?
- We will go over possibilities on Monday.
HOMEWORK:
- None for tonight. Check as to whether or not you can bring a Barbie to school after February vacation for a math experiment. She will NOT be damaged. We will not need them until AFTER February vacation.

February 10, 2016
In order to accommodate a special team schedule for group work, we did not meet in math classes today. Inequalities and graphing will continue tomorrow and we will move into solving 2-step equations next week.

More 1-step Inequalities & Graphing
HOMEWORK:

Mini-Evaluation #9
Students worked independently on demonstrating background knowledge and providing supporting evidence to their Monty Hall Problem.
Some students were involved in a ski contest. Below is the link to the evaluation paper. Connect to the Link and make a copy and rename the document "First name-Last name-M-E #9." PRINT the document at home or school and give it to me tomorrow morning. Proof your writing for conventions! Make sure you have supporting evidence to your claim.

Monty Hall Evaluations
Today, students evaluated another class's posters (names excluded) using the language department's rubric for "Language & Vocabulary" and "Elaboration of Evidence" components. Conventions and Spelling were also noted.
The discoveries made by the students were that they can pick out the errors even when s/he does not include the information in their own work. Because this will be an evaluation/assessment grade, students will have another opportunity to show their knowledge of including the above components in regard to the "Monty Hall Problem."

Monty Hall - Day 3
After student groups completed their poster, some shared their thinking and results. Tomorrow, students will evaluate another classes posters for supporting evidence to their conclusion.

Monty Hall POSTERS
Students completed their Monty Hall Problem Poster, indicating their grasp/understanding of probability and supporting their answers with background knowledge and evidence.
Posters were due at the end of the class period. Students in the Andromeda group will have more time tomorrow to finish. Student groups will have 2-3 minutes to share results with their class on Tuesday.
After students were finished with their poster, they had an opportunity to work on IXL.
